Johanna Tramantano

Senior Educational Consultant

Johanna is a senior educational consultant for Teaching Matters. Prior to joining the Teaching Matters team, she served as the Director of Literacy/ELA and Reading for Grades K-12 for a large urban district, and also worked as a teacher, literacy coach, and assistant principal in New York City. She has worked in the field of education for over seventeen years, and is passionate about literacy education and developing administrator and teacher capacities to leverage student performance outcomes.

Johanna enjoys providing professional development to teachers and administrators through a collaborative and data-informed approach. She holds a B.A. in British Literature from Hunter College, an M.A. in the Teaching of English from Teachers College, Columbia University, an M.S. Ed. degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from the College of Saint Rose, and is currently a Ph.D. student at NYU-Steinhardt in the Department of Teaching and Learning focusing her studies on literacy education. Her interests rest in studying the cognitive demands of close reading skills in adolescent learners, disciplinary literacy practices, and supporting the needs of all learners through individualized reading and writing instruction.
