Jennifer Davoli Jang is an Educational Consultant for Teaching Matters with expertise in secondary social studies, high-quality performance assessment, and student-centered learning. She has dedicated her career to creating classrooms and school communities that honor the cultural, racial, and linguistic identities of marginalized BIPOC youth. With over 15 years of experience as a teacher, teacher-leader, and educational coach, Jennifer supports educators in connecting learning to students’ knowledge and experiences and leveraging student strengths to raise engagement and academic achievement.
Jennifer began teaching bilingual history classes, in Spanish, in Washington Heights. Later, she taught Humanities in Brooklyn and in the South Bronx, at a portfolio-based high school. It was in the Bronx where she collaborated with subject and grade teams to build learning experiences as agents of social change. Jennifer taught abroad in Uruguay, Brazil, and Vietnam and then moved exclusively into coaching and mentoring educators in both New York City and New Jersey. For the past ten years she coached teacher graduates from the Urban Teachers Residency Program at Rutgers University and New Visions for Public Schools. She has been most effective in supporting educators with assessment, UBD design, culturally sustaining pedagogy, inquiry-based learning, student-centered learning, and differentiated curriculum that supports all types of learners. She completed her graduate work in Bilingual Education at Columbia University’s Teachers College and her undergraduate work at SUNY Binghamton.
