Kate Sullivan is a Senior Educational Consultant for Teaching Matters, with an expertise in K–12 English Language Arts. In this role, Kate partners with teachers and school leaders to strengthen Tier 1 instruction, elevate student voice, and build classrooms where every learner can participate, think deeply, and succeed. Her coaching is grounded in the belief that rigorous instruction and inclusive instruction are the same work: designing learning experiences accessible to all students.
Prior to joining Teaching Matters, Kate spent over twenty years in education as a middle school ELA teacher, instructional coach, and professional development facilitator, most recently leading literacy initiatives at Rumson Board of Education, where her team sustained 95% or higher proficiency on the NJ Grade 8 ELA assessment for five consecutive years. She built and led her own consulting practice, working with K–8 schools nationally and presenting at the NCTE National Convention (2019, 2025) and NJASCD. Kate was named Governor’s Educator of the Year in her district in 2020–21. She holds an MA in English from The College of New Jersey.
