Omiga Colas is an Educational Consultant at Teaching Matters. In her current position, she plays a vital role in assisting educators in enhancing both their content knowledge and pedagogical approaches to elevate student literacy. Collaborating closely with school leaders, teachers, and teacher teams, she actively engages in the analysis of data, goal setting and utilizes formative assessments to inform and guide instructional strategies.
She has dedicated the last thirteen years to closing the generational gap through a holistic approach to teaching literacy. Her dedication stems from a profound belief in the transformative power of literacy, recognizing it not merely as a skill but as a gateway to empowerment and personal growth. Omiga’s commitment to fostering a holistic understanding of literacy underscores her passion for nurturing individuals through education, emphasizing its far-reaching impact beyond the confines of the classroom.
During her tenure, Omiga has served as an ELA Classroom Teacher, Reading Specialist, Educational Director, Elementary and Middle School Curriculum Developer, and Director of Humanities.
Proudly hailing from Brooklyn and of Guyanese descent, Omiga holds a Bachelor of Science in Childhood Education with a concentration in language and literature, as well as a Master of Science in Literacy from the City College of New York.
