Rebecca Hyman is a dedicated educator who focuses on holistic teaching. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from SUNY New Paltz, an Advanced Certificate in Gifted Education from SUNY Buffalo, and a Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology for Educators from the New York Institute of Technology.

Before becoming a K-5 Literacy Coach, Rebecca worked as an elementary school teacher for the New York City Department of Education. She positioned herself as an advocate for Twice Exceptional Learners, spearheaded a Social-Emotional Learning Committee, and was a key member of the Equity and Excellence Committee.

Rebecca transitioned from classroom teaching to coaching and consulting, where she supported literacy instruction in over twenty schools across the country. She has experience supporting the implementation of the NYC Reads initiative, aligning her work with the Science of Reading’s research-based and evidence-based approach. In addition to her coaching role, Rebecca has facilitated workshops on topics such as Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education, foundational reading skills, collaboration and classroom talk, and the integration of technology in literacy instruction.

Rebecca weaves her love of teaching and learning into her personal passions. When she is not spending time with her trusty French Bulldog, Charleston Chew, Rebecca can be found reading in the park, practicing yoga, embroidering on photographs, or getting creative with clay at her pottery studio! Rebecca thrives on being in community with others.

As a member of the Teaching Matters team, Rebecca looks forward to championing teachers and students alike.
