Dr. Kate Cunningham Rutledge

Dr. Kate Cunningham Rutledge is a Senior Educational Consultant and Associate Director of Early Literacy at Teaching Matters. In this role, she leverages her expertise in data-driven instruction, elementary education, and early literacy to support school leaders in strengthening school systems and practices that advance great literacy instruction. She also directly coaches educators in their work with young readers and writers. In addition, Kate supports aspiring teacher leaders across the Bronx as a Virtual Coach for Teaching Matters’ Emerging Teacher Leaders program.

Prior to joining Teaching Matters, Kate worked as a teacher, principal, and district administrator focused on special education and academic interventions. She has also taught both undergraduate and graduate students in the areas of literacy, educational interventions, and issues of equity and excellence in education. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in History and Sociology from the College of William & Mary in Virginia, and a Master’s degree in Childhood Education from the Relay Graduate School of Education. Kate also earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership (Ed.L.D.) from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
